The BEST Wines for summer sipping

Off socializing this summer? Looking for a smooth drop that can be easily shared amongst friends? We have the list of all lists with the Gather Yarra Valley picks of the best wines for summer sipping.

Our Sparkling Choice – Happy New Year always sounds better with the pop of the cork, shooting into the air like fireworks and there is no better way to bring in the new year than with a bottle of the Steels Gate, 2019 Blanc De Blancs.

This fresh tasting wine is 100% handpicked, and pairs perfectly with a summer afternoon of cheese and grazing boards, or a scrumptious seafood platter, perfect for a special occasion or gift.

Our White Wine Choice – This was a tough choice because there are so many excellent white wines that go perfectly with a summer day. But in all truth, you can’t go past Soumah’s 2022 Single Vineyard Pinot Grigio. A crisp white wine, with pear, quince and floral notes. Think fish and chips on the beach or a delicious pasta with olive oil, prawns and chilli.

Red, Red Wine – Okay so we know Red Wine is a little less popular during the summer months and tends to be the wine around the fireplace drink, however we will not be letting Red Wine slip through the sun this summer.. Have you tried a chilled Pinot Noir?

Pinot Noir tends to have a lighter taste due to being produced in a cooler climate environment.

Chilled or not, our pick for Red Wine this summer is Helen and Joey’s Wayward Child Pinot Noir. Think red berries, tangy, long lasting fruit flavours, with an earthy appeal.  We think this wine goes down well with a BBQ and salad, perfect for summer entertainment.

Our Rose Choice – When our gal pals get together, the go to is almost always Rose. And then possibly some more Rose and we love the Dominique Portet, 2022 Fontaine Rose.  Not too sweet for Rose (which we like), this pale pink, creamy Rose will leave your mouth watering with a dry finish and before you know it, you will be having another sip!

A Summer vibes choice – If your idea of summer fun is a boozy lunch or brunch (no judgement from us) with friends in the sun, then you can’t go past the Zonzo Estate Bellini. This wine is fun, easy to drink and full of flavour!

The Zonzo Estate Bellini is a traditional Italian aperitif is bright orange in colour and combines an ideal balance of peach nectar and Prosecco. Honestly, you can probably drink this with anything and share it anyone (over 18 of course), however we think it goes best with a stack of pancakes or a delicious dessert.

Under $20

If you’re looking for a wine that entertains the masses, you can’t go past the St Hubert’s Chardonnay. A dry, white wine, easy to drink and very consistent in flavour.  This Chardonnay is perfect for a family lunch or a party of many.  We are confident this smooth green melon, citrus and oak flavoured drop would be perfect for any event across summer.
